The Muddy Artist, Instructional Designer, Project Manager, & Data Storyteller

For most of my career, I have been a coach, project manager, and facilitator in training and leadership research. Since I was a teenager, I have been dabbling in pottery. In my first Chicago ceramics class, pre-pandemic times, I reconnected with art and the artistic community. I have taken classes since at Lill Street and with the Chicago Parks, on off visits to different local studios, and I just can't manage to keep my hands clean of the mud. I have built a community, a small business, and a functional understanding of a craft as old as humanity.

In my office life, as a design and coaching professional, I enjoy building lasting relationships, puzzling through the muck to find optimal long-term solutions, storytelling and motivating with the why. Learning, listening, and skill sharing. I gravitate toward work that helps people build relationships and creates open systems of success.

I have been in the world of creative engagement, project management, and training for my entire professional career. If I can add to the world of arts while holding those things dear, it would feel holy.

Designing with aspects of fun, joy, humor, and delight is a passion. Let's make it good and fun, intuitive and aesthetically pleasing.

As a Potter, Painter, Writer...

My approach to art and creativity is  guided by community, empowerment, tiny joys, and healing through embracing the messy reality of doing and creating.

Artist Statement: I am fascinated with the medium of mud, the sensory experience, and find the practice fulfilling, calming, and often incredibly humbling. The tangible learning experience offers the great reminder that life is about practice, humor, and connecting with people.
Every terrible first attempt is a success when a second attempt is born. Always testing and prototyping, I will forever enjoy chasing new projects and wild ideas.

As an instructional designer, I often took an agile approach to each project: iterating, testing, and tweaking until things worked. That agility and forward-focus translates well into my ceramics practice. And if the worst-case scenario is just a wet mud ball, let’s get weird.  At the beginning of 2023, I joined a women’s arts collective dedicated to building community and healing through creativity. We shared our work, our struggles, and practiced embodying an authentic creative spirit. After a year of artistic exploration, I decided to branch out and start selling, sharing the work that brought me joy and growth.

With a couple years of a regular artistic practice under my belt and some time to reflect, I want a more accessible and involved creative practice. As I am continuing my art, I plan on offering guidance and space for others.  My ultimate goal is to start a sustainable collective for groups of  artists and provide space to be brave, participate in a supportive community, make messy mistakes, meet other great artists, and workshop life together. I believe in the transformative power of art and creativity, paying attention to the details of life, self-care and exploration. I hope to inspire other creative spirits to rejoice in beautiful imperfect things.
